New Course for the Modern Architect:

ARCH 472: Interactions with Animals

Given the increasing call for architects to be aware of the surrounding environment, this course aims to give students a holistic understanding of how various animals behave, as well as how they interact with their habitat. In this course, student will explore how different types of architectural design engage with animals, as well as how structures inhibit or facilitate their daily routines. Modern architects should be able to design a building that creates synergy between all living things. Conversely, by keeping details such as animal interactions in mind, students will also become better at designing buildings that answer their client’s needs. This course is meant for undergraduate students in their fourth year who have strong understanding and grasp of fundamentals such as, but not limited to, drawing, structures, construction, and design. Students will build on their foundation and gain a more holistic understanding of the surrounding environment.
