Modular Architecture:

In current times when technology develops at a rapid rate, I think an important course that would prepare for today’s world would be one to develop ideas on how to future-proof buildings not just for current needs, but for those of the future as well. The course would be centered around modular design, in which various parts of architecture could be removed or upgraded quickly and easily, allowing for easy modification without needing to destroy other sections for construction. This would be helpful for modern problems such as needing to expand a company building after a merger, or adding a new room to a school with new, updated technology, and being able to do so quickly and efficiently would be a time and money saver. Thus, the course would focus on things like spatial design such that even when rearranged or split apart every part of the building still functions as a whole, as well as aesthetic appeal so that it still looks good. It would also be offered most likely as a 3rd or 4th year course, as it student-design oriented and thus would require a fundamental understanding of constructing structures and basic design principles.
