Reading Response #4: De-tale

A door leads to a deep pocket of storage above the blood red entryway stairs (Image 1). The ceiling and walls are covered in a semicircular paint pattern that pulses around a center light in the ceiling (Image 2). A corner of a bedroom door is cut through by the dramatic slant of the ceiling (Image 3).

The small doorway is an uncomfortable size, only a few feet in height, and is held to the wall with a small latch, yet strong enough to contain whatever lies inside and attempts to break through. It is set above the entryway, lying above the heads of those entering the hidden apartment, guarded by water pipes that are burning to the touch.

Once up the stairs, one notices the semi-circular paint markings- carved devotions- on every wall surface throughout the dwelling. They seem to be repetitions marking something otherworldly and important, and all converge at one overhead light at the center of a room: a space for conjuring something unknown.

Near the symbols convergence, a sharp wall slices through a doorway, unusual in size and seemingly hastily added in to the space. It leads to a tower with a high ceiling, the severed corner of the doorway deceiving the height of the room on the other side.
